A Crack

£25.00

A small edition of eight handmade books made for the ‘Letting in the Light’ exhibition at the Kirkby Gallery (May – August 2025). The books feature one of my favourite song lyrics: "There is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in" (from the 1992 song 'Anthem' by Leonard Cohen).

The tall concertina structure contains hand stamped modular type (using the Blockface stamp set) partially cut away to reveal light behind the dark lettering and grey pages. The second part of the lyric is rubber stamped onto a neon yellow roundel, a colour which is also collaged behind a crack on the cover and the inside back cover, to contrast with the otherwise monochrome book. The book is enclosed within a grey bellyband which features the title.
